Being Sensible Followup

Silence. No one responded to my question about being sensible, so I'm guessing that you all have about the same number of ideas for this post as I do! There really has to be something there that God wants to teach us, so I'm going to meditate on this today and write down my thoughts tonight. Please be praying the same for yourselves - that God would teach you what He desires in you from being sensible.

"Be sensible"

Greek word 4998 (check out your concordance)

sober, temperate, and discreet

biblical usage (see site below)
1) of a sound mind, sane, in one's senses

2) curbing one's desires and impulses, self-controlled, temperate

To "read" the Bible in Greek and Hebrew.

One site with a concordance:

To be honest, I think that says it all! :)

Perhaps it has become obvious to all of you that I've really been struggling with why *some* Christians use the word *discipline* to mean spanking when it's clear in the Bible that discipline means much more than that. Training by example and with words is an obvious first step.

Anyway, I've done my homework now and looked at God's Word. Those two sites were a big help.

Reading the books of Romans and Hebrews also shed a lot of light on the topic. There are way too many man-made rules on that topic.

I'll save my passionate words about this for my own blog. :)

But I do hope you all will be inspired to read your Bible in both Greek and Hebrew! It's fascinating. :)

I think as women we are given to our emotions and this is a call to not let our emotions rule our lives. It is something that we actually have to learn to do, because it isn't our natural tendency. To act sensibly would mean to think before we speak, to pray before we act, to believe the truth instead of lies...

Please don't hear me say that women aren't logical, that is NOT what I mean. When anyone, man or woman makes decisions or takes action based purely on emotion, it can really cause a great deal of harm. Notice the last part of the verse "so that the word of God will not be dishonored."
