Sam's Favorite Toddler Products

In the course of a day, Samuel plays with the following:
1. Matchbox cars.
2. Dump trucks.
3. Imaginext men & cars.
4. Backhoes.
5. Trains.
We purchased all of these (except #5) at rummage sales or garage sales. I would highly recommend using second-hand toys because kids go through them so quickly and you just never know what they're going to be into!
One recent first-hand purchase that we made was for Samuel's second birthday. We bought him a train set from IKEA and a Thomas the Tank Engine from Target. The train set was only $14.99 at IKEA, cheaper than the Thomas version. The Thomas train was $12.99 and the James train with tender was $19.99. I think that's all we will get him because he is perfectly content with it all and I don't want to be picking up a million trains!

The other thing that Samuel likes to play with in the summer is his slide and pool. We purchased the pool for $4.99 from Menards and the climber w/ slide for $5 from a garage sale. I realize this is the end of warm weather for most of us, but an idea nonetheless for next year!

We'll have warm/hot weather for 2 more solid months! :) I love the pic of Samuel standing by his pool. A boy and his backyard - what more could one ask for?

This is a fun topic, especially to see what boys play with - so different from girls.

I would love to find the climber/slide for my boys. I keep looking but haven't found a second hand one yet. I don't want to pay the price for new because like you said they out grow it so fast especially at this age. Vehicles of any sort are such a great investment for kids. My 22 month old loves these along with puzzles and his books.

Well, I just wanted to chip in as to what Lydia loves right now...She will be 3 in October. WE have been craigslist fans and have bought several awesome toys for really really cheap...

1. Her grocery store checkout stand and grocery cart (purchased as a set for 5.00 off craigslist) As far as our groceries I save all the empty butter, cereal, rice, cracker boxes from us/family and retape them shut with packing tape...can we say free!. My dad gave her an old calculator to go with this and she is in heaven. AS far as play food I have some plastic and I hate it, but I have started making some with a dough that you bake this is included in her kitchen. Once again cheap...her daddy built it with junk!

2. Fisher Price Little MOmmy Changing Table: Once again purchased off craigslist for 3.oo. This has been perfect. Since I am expecting in Jan and both my sisters have been pregnant (one has had and the other due in 6 weeks)

3. Playdough....we second the previous ideas and use kitchen utensils for accesories.

4. Finger paint

5. Crayons and markers.

Well that is our fav's write now

Hey Ladies! This doesn't really have anything to do with the current topic, but I just wanted to put it out there. I was wondering if you could do something on stay at home moms...what we do, why you think it's important, what you say to people who ask you about it. This is why....I have been being asked about this a lot lately (for whatever reason), and last week I got asked about it by an 8 year old! This was the conversation...

Girl: why do you live in Atlanta?
Me: B/c my husband's job is in Atlanta
Girl: Where is your job?
Me: Well I stay at home and take care of my kids.
Girl: Is that b/c you couldn't find a job?
Me: No. I just wanted to stay home with my kids, so I didn't go out and find a job.
Girl: Well, you should find a job.

And that was it! I was amazed that even an 8 year old could have an opinion of me staying at home. And also lately I've been getting a lot from everyone of "so, when your kids go to school, will you go back to work??" HELP!

Michelle,
Okay, can I just say that you crack me up! I always love when you put conversations on your blog and this one is just hilarious. We hadn't planned any SAHM conversations, but maybe we can work some things in about SAHMs and Working Moms. Maybe I'll solicit some guest posts. Thanks for sharing!
